Paul Defiglia 2

Paul Defiglia was the keyboardist, Hammond B-3 organist, and upright bass player for The Avett Brothers. He was a touring member of the band from 2011 to 2017.

History[]

Paul is a very talented musician and has played and recorded with many groups, most notably Langhorn Slim and the Law from roughly 2005 to 2008, with whom he recorded on When the Sun's Gone Down, Engine, Langhorn Slim, and Cinderella. He has also recorded with Uzimon, Cock Lorde, Elan Mehler, Bird Dog, and Gilles Peterson.

With The Avett Brothers[]

Paul joined The Avett Brothers in early 2011 as a touring member when bassist Bob Crawford took a hiatus from the band to be with his wife Melanie Crawford for the birth of their son. Later in 2011 Paul returned to fill in for Bob when Bob took another hiatus to tend to his ill daughter. When Bob returned the band retained Paul to play the Hammond B-3 organ, keyboards, and bass when Bob plays the violin. Paul recorded and toured for Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smith and recorded for 2016's True Sadness.

In August 2017 it was announced that Paul was leaving the band on September 3, 2017 to pursue other musical ventures.[1]

Paul is married to Mickela Mallozi and currently lives in Nashville.[2]

After The Avett Brothers[]

After leaving The Avett Brothers Paul has been working as a producer and studio musician for artists and acts including Kite Lines, L'Orange, Langhorn Slim, Charles Bradley, Annie Bacon, James Levy, and Travesura.

On November 30, 2020 Paul released his first solo album of covers titled In Daylight including a cover of "Country Blues" featuring Seth and Scott Avett.
